How to Activate and Turn iOS AssistiveTouch On/Off

iPhone has a lot of Accessibility features built into the operating system to help people with different physical and mental disabilities use the device to its full potential. And one of these useful features is the AssistiveTouch.

AssistiveTouch feature helps people with motor skill impairments to be able to perform actions like pinching to zoom or 3D Touch with just a tap instead. In this post, I’m going to tell you how to turn the AssistiveTouch feature on/off and the ways to customize it according to your requirements. Let’s take a look.

How to Activate AssistiveTouch

To turn AssistiveTouch, do the following:

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility

  2. Under Physical and Motor, tap Touch.

  3. Tap AssitiveTouch, then tap it again to turn it On.

The AssitiveTouch feature has come a long way since it was first introduced. You can further customize the AssitiveTouch menu to your liking after activating it.

Here are some examples of what you can do with AssitiveTouch.

Customize AssitiveTouch Top Level Menu

The default AssitiveTouch Top Level Menu consists of 6 icons, which comprise of Notifications, Custom, Device, Siri, Home, and Control Centre. You can reduce the number of icons shown, or you can add up to a maximum of 8 icons.

Customize Actions

You can customize what you want iOS to do upon interacting (tapping) with the AssitiveTouch menu. You can set single-tapping, double-tapping, long-pressing, and 3D-touching the menu to perform different actions according to your liking.

How to Toggle AssistiveTouch Off/On

While you can go all the way back into Settings > Accessibility to turn AssistiveTouch on and off, here’s a simple shortcut to do it, by just triple-clicking the side button.

Here’s how to get it set up:

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility.

  2. Scroll down to General, and tap Accessibility Shortcut.

  3. Under "Triple-click the side button for", tap AssitiveTouch.
