THOUSAND OAKS — Micah Kiser has been a physical presence in the middle of the Rams’ defense in his first full season of NFL action at linebacker.
“When he arrives, he arrives violently,” Rams coach Sean McVay said Thursday, describing why Kiser leads the team in tackles with 77.
The Rams are going to miss that 6-foot, 244-pound rolling boulder at least for their upcoming games at SoFi Stadium against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, on the road against the Arizona Cardinals, and back home against the New England Patriots.
Kiser was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury Thursday. Under 2020 NFL roster rules, Kiser will be eligible to return after three weeks. McVay said he hopes it won’t take longer, and said Kiser won’t need surgery.
Kiser will be replaced Sunday mostly by Troy Reeder, who had three sacks against Washington when Kiser was out with a groin pull in Week 5.
Tight end Tyler Higbee (elbow) and rookie outside linebacker Terrell Lewis (knee) also missed practice Thursday.
McVay said Higbee looks “questionable” to play Sunday.
The coach said Lewis is having trouble with the same knee that cost him the season’s first four games.
