Spark of Love Toy Drive hosting drive-thru donation event Dec. 5 in Laguna Hills

More kids could be in need of toys this holiday season because of the pandemic and wildfires.

That’s why the Orange County Fire Authority and KWAVE 107.9 FM have adopted a new strategy to continue their efforts with the long-running Spark of Love Toy Drive despite the coronavirus.

The partners will host a drive-thru donation event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Crossline Church, 23331 Moulton Parkway, in Laguna Hills.

Donations also can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays at the KWAVE warehouse at 3232 W. MacArthur Blvd., in Santa Ana during the weeks leading up to Christmas.

“More than 32,000 toys have been requested,” Orange County Fire Authority officials announced on their website. “We know that with the COVID-19 pandemic, and the devastating wildfire season, the need for toys this year will be even greater than before.

“Many people are out of work and unable to provide gifts for their young children and teenagers.”

In years past, toy donations could be dropped off at fire stations, but that option is not available because of COVID-19 restrictions, officials said.

Financial donations also can be made in the name of “Spark of Love Toy Drive” through the OCFA Foundation.

The Spark of Love Toy Drive works with ABC7, numerous business sponsors and local fire departments.
