LOS ANGELES — It was almost as if things were back to normal for the Los Angeles Football Club.

Even though its fans, the 3252, were not in the stadium, a large group could be heard across the street from the Banc of California Stadium during Wednesday’s meeting against San Jose.

Inside, it was a LAFC team that got some of its frustrations out after a two-game losing skid.

Thanks to a pair of goals from Diego Rossi, LAFC (3-2-3, 12 points) gave its distant fans something to cheer about with a 5-1 win over the Earthquakes.

“San Jose always plays with intensity,” LAFC coach Bob Bradley said. “Matías Almeyda’s teams are always competing and they understand the system. We have some dangerous attackers, and so when teams play tight man-to-man, the ability to create openings and get guys on the move is something that our guys enjoy, and we’ve been able to have some good matches.”

LAFC had lost its first two games of the MLS restart — a 2-0 defeat to the Galaxy and 3-1 to the Seattle Sounders — and was trying to avoid its first ever three-game losing streak. If you add in the final game in the MLS is Back Tournament, which don’t count in the standings, then LAFC had a three-game losing streak.

The game got off to a good start for LAFC as Rossi opened the scoring in the 22nd minute by curling in a shot from the left wing past a diving Daniel Vega.

In the previous two games, LAFC didn’t do itself any favors, allowing the first goal and never getting back on track.

Bradley Wright-Phillips gave LAFC all the offense it would need as he made it 2-0 with a goal in the 49th minute.

However, LAFC wasn’t done.

Jose Cifuentes scored in the 64th minute and Rossi got back in the act in the 69th minute as he reached a bad back pass and went with a toe tap to get the ball under Vega and into the back of the net for a 4-0 lead.

Rossi’s two goals gave him nine this season, leading Major League Soccer.

“It was a good game, this one,” Rossi said. “It’s always a fair game and they have a special way of defending. Today we do it well. We have the control of the game, and that’s our way of playing and I think that we do it well.

Danny Musovski capped the scoring for LAFC in the 84th minute.

The result probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise. In the last four meetings between the teams, LAFC had outscored San Jose by a combined score of 16-0 until Danny Hoesen scored in the 90th minute.

“I think overall, it’s a great bounce back performance and I think it’s a game we needed,” Wright-Phillips said. “I think we needed to just bounce back from the last two results. It hasn’t been great. I think last week got a little better with the start but this week it was more of a complete performance, a little gutted about conceding the goal at the end but it’s a good performance.”

LAFC will return to the field Sunday against the Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park.
